TUNIS, Tunisia, Dec. 8 (UPI) -- Tunisia's tourism revenues increased by 16.6 percent through November reaching $1.6 billion, an official report said Wednesday.

The report said the improvement in the tourism sector boosted Tunisia's foreign currency reserves to 4.6 billion dinars ($3.7 billion) until early December, compared to 3.4 billion dinars ($2.7 billion) in the same period last year.

Tourism is a pillar of the Tunisian economy and a main earner of foreign currency reserves. Twelve percent of the country's workforce is employed in the tourism sector.
